Fr. Gabe Fox has entered Eternal Life

Rev. Gabriel J. (aka James L.) Fox, 79, passed into eternal life on  Monday, December 28, 2015 in St. Petersburg Florida after a short illness. Father Gabriel was born and raised in Chicago Heights, Illinois. He attended the former St. Ann's Parish School and graduated from Bloom Township High School in 1954.  In 1968, he joined the Conventual Franciscan  Order in Indiana and was ordained to the priesthood at the Basilica of St. Paul in Rome on April 15, 1974.  

Father Gabriel served parishes in Indiana, Wisconsin, Kentucky and Michigan before being incardinated into the Diocese of Gaylord on May 29, 1992. 

In the Diocese of Gaylord, he served as Pastor to the parishes of St. James on Beaver Island, St. Ann in Frankfort, St. Catherine in Ossineke, St. Gabriel in Black River, and St. Mary in Manistee, before retiring to Senior Priest status in 2001.

Father Gabe is survived by his sister, Barbara Zandi (the late James) of Fort Mohave, AZ, his brother-in-law, George Sedlacek (Bonnie) of Crete, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Helen (Bergin) Fox, his stepfather, Joseph Magner and one niece, Elizabeth Young.

Visitation will be held at St. Agnes Church, 1501 Chicago Road in Chicago Heights, IL 60411 on Thursday, January 7, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. The Most Reverend Steven J. Raica, Bishop of the Diocese of Gaylord, will preside and Fr. Pius Poff, OFM Conv., will offer the homily.  Burial will take place at Assumption Cemetery in Glenwood, IL following the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Priest Retirement Fund of the Diocese of Gaylord, Michigan.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him,
may he and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
