Golf Outing to Benefit Vocations
The Vocations Advisory Committee for the Diocese of Gaylord will host the second annual “Golf Outing to Support Vocations” at Elk Ridge Golf Club in Atlanta, Michigan, on Monday, August 4, 2014. The date coincides with the Feast Day of St. John Vianney, Patron Saint of Parish Priests and all proceeds from the event will be used to support vocations in the Diocese of Gaylord. The scramble format tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 10:00 a.m. Cost is $100 per person/$400 per team and will include morning refreshments, lunch at the turn, dinner and prizes. New this year is the opportunity to win a new car with a hole in one, sponsored by Fernelius Auto in Cheboygan. A few other surprises are also in store for participants.
As a special exciting bonus, registrations paid by the early bird deadline of June 1 will be mailed a certificate for “Buy One 18 Hole Round of Golf Get the Second One Free” which can be used at Elk Ridge anytime during the 2014 golf season.
“Our diocese has been blessed with an increase in the number of seminarians in recent years,” said Fr. Don Geyman, Director of Vocations. "This increase, while a source of great hope, presents a financial challenge to the diocese and this golf outing is one way we hope to address those needs. It’s also a great opportunity to highlight vocations, meet our seminarians, and have a really good time on a beautiful course!”
Elk Ridge Golf Club opened May 1991 and has been highly acclaimed over the years. In February of 2013 it was named to Golf Digests list of America's 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses. Designed by renowned Michigan architect Jerry Matthews, Elk Ridge offers stunning views of Northern Michigan amid an abundant variety of wildlife including eagles, deer, bear, bobcat and wild turkey.
The course offers a variety of challenges for every level of golfer, and players will have the opportunity to purchase mulligans that day at a small fee in case a hole presents a little too much of a challenge. Other fun contests are also being planned with prizes for top finishers in several categories for men and women.
The golf outing will take place rain or shine and is open to anyone. All are welcome to participate, whether individually or as part of a team. Registrations will be taken on a first come-first served basis, so register early and be sure to take advantage of the Early Bird bonus.
Sponsorship opportunities are also available for those who would like to promote their business or organization to golfers or simply to support the vocations fund raising effort. Hole sponsorships are available for $100 and hole contest sponsorships are $125.
