Pat Schaffler New Executive Director for NMCF

The Board of Trustees of the Northern Michigan Catholic Foundation (NMCF) has announced the selection of Patrick Schaffler to serve as its new Executive Director. The appointment was effective January 16, 2014. The Northern Michigan Catholic Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charity established to assist donors interested in charitable giving and to make charitable grants to help meet the needs of the Catholic community within the Diocese of Gaylord. Schaffler, a resident of Traverse City and graduate of the University of Notre Dame, succeeds Danielle Parish in the role. Parish moved to Lansing to pursue a development position with Michigan State University. “Pat’s business expertise in strategic planning paired with his strong connections to family, community and faith led to his selection as the Executive Director of the Northern Michigan Catholic Foundation,” said Joel Myler, President of the NMCF Board of Trustees. “We are confident that with Pat leading the foundation, we will reach new levels of growth in donor funds and establish a greater presence for the Foundation as the leading independent philanthropic organization supporting the growing needs of the Catholic community in the Diocese of Gaylord.” Schaffler was born and raised in Dallas, TX, where he attended Catholic schools in the Diocese of Dallas. He went on to earn a degree in Finance and Business Economics from the University of Notre Dame in 2001. Schaffler spent the majority of his career in the Chicago, IL, area gaining experience in the banking and hedge fund industries, then moved into the non-profit industry in April of 2009 as a Director of Strategy, Insights and Planning for Dairy Management Inc., the domestic and international planning and management organization that builds demand for dairy products on behalf of America’s 60,000-plus dairy producers. In June of 2012, Schaffler left the Chicago area with his wife, Jennifer, to follow their dream to live and raise their children in northwestern Lower Michigan. Schaffler currently owns and operates a consulting practice in the Traverse City area, Acuity Consulting LLC, offering strategic insights and planning services. His wife, Jennifer, was born and raised in Ludington, MI, and is an anesthesiologist for Traverse Anesthesia Associates, working out of the Munson Healthcare system. “I am thrilled that my new role as Executive Director of the Northern Michigan Catholic Foundation allows me the opportunity to combine my business expertise in strategic planning and my commitment to the Catholic community,” said Schaffler. “My wife and I have remained active in local parishes and Catholic organizations, and this position will allow me to focus my time, energy and expertise on a foundation that makes a tremendous impact on those it serves.” Schaffler and his wife of eight years, have a three year old son who attends Holy Angels Elementary and Preschool in Traverse City, and a two year old daughter who plans to follow in her brother’s footsteps. They are members of St. Joseph Parish in Traverse City. The Northern Michigan Catholic Foundation was established in 1998 by Bishop Patrick R. Cooney to benefit individual programs and ministries throughout the Diocese of Gaylord. The NMCF is an endowment-based fiduciary body that supports the philanthropic needs of donors who seek to make cash gifts, bequests or planned gifts in support of Catholic ministries in northern Lower Michigan. Individuals, parishes, schools, diocesan agencies and ministries may all establish endowment accounts, known as Donor Named Funds, within NMCF to benefit the Catholic ministry or organization closest to their hearts.
