Official Diocesan Appointments

The Most Reverend Bernard A. Hebda, Bishop of the Diocese of Gaylord, announces the following appointments:

Effective June 19, 2013 :

Rev. Matthew A. Wigton has been assigned as Temporary Administrator of Holy Cross Parish on Beaver Island in addition to his responsibilities as Administrator of St. Mary of the Assumption Parish in Charlevoix.

Effective July 1, 2013 :

Rev. Joseph P. Graff, Pastor of the parishes of Holy Childhood of Jesus in Harbor Springs, Holy Cross in Cross Village, St. Nicholas in Larks Lake and St. Ignatius in Good Hart, has assumed the responsibility of providing and coordinating spiritual direction and formation for permanent deacons, candidates for the permanent diaconate, and aspirants for the permanent diaconate. He has also assumed responsibility for the diocesan Spiritual Companions program.

Rev. Joseph A. Blasko has completed his service as Administrator of Holy Cross on Beaver Island and has been named parochial vicar for the parishes of Holy Childhood of Jesus in Harbor Springs, Holy Cross in Cross Village, St. Nicholas in Larks Lake and St. Ignatius in Good Hart, with residence at Holy Cross in Cross Village.

Effective July 1, 2013:

At her request, and with the permission of the provincial leadership of the Sisters of Mercy, Sr. Rita Epple, RSM, has been relieved of her responsibilities as Pastoral Administrator of St. Dominic Parish in Metz.

Effective July 8, 2013 :

Rev. Bryan Medlin has been appointed Parochial Vicar for the parishes of Sacred Heart in Oscoda and Holy Family in East Tawas. Fr. Bryan was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Gaylord on June 29, 2013.

Rev. Matthew Furgiuele has been appointed Parochial Vicar pro tempore for the parishes of St. Anne in Harrisville, St. Catherine in Ossineke, St. Gabriel in Black River and St. Raphael in Mikado. Fr. Matthew will return to the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome on September 23, 2013 to complete his licentiate in Canon Law. Fr. Matthew was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Gaylord on June 29, 2013.

Effective July 15, 2013 :

In conjunction with the redimensioning of the cluster in Presque Isle County, Rev. Artur F. Duchnowicz has been relieved of his responsibilities as Pastor of St. Ignatius of Loyola Parish in Rogers City while remaining as Pastor of St. Casimir Parish in Posen and St. Dominic Parish in Metz, with residence at St. Casimir, Metz.

Rev. Sylvestre L. Obwaka has been named Pastor for St. Ignatius of Loyola Parish in Rogers City for a term of six years. He had formerly served as Parochial Vicar for the parishes of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Shrine, St. Joseph and Guardian Angels in Manistee.

Rev. Chester L. Collins has been appointed Parochial Vicar for the parishes of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Shrine, St. Joseph and Guardian Angels in Manistee. He had been serving as Parochial Vicar to the parishes of St. Matthew in Boyne City, St. Augustine in Boyne Falls and St. John Nepomucene in Praga.

Effective August 1, 2013

W ith the permission of the Very Reverend Timothy Kesicki, Provincial Superior for the Chicago-Detroit Province of the Society of Jesus, Rev. James Von Tobel, S.J., has been named Parochial Vicar for the parishes of St. Ann in Cadillac, St. Edward in Harrietta, St. Stephen in Lake City and St. Theresa in Manton. Fr. Von Tobel has been serving in the Diocese of Winona in Minnesota.

Effective August 15, 2013 :

Rev. Paul Megge has resigned as Pastor for St. Mary-St. Charles in Cheboygan, St. Clement in Pellston and Sacred Heart in Riggsville due to health reasons. He will continue to serve the Diocese of Gaylord in replacement ministry.

With the permission of the Most Rev. Robert Brom, Bishop of San Diego, Rev. Craig Haider has been assigned Administrator of the parishes of St. Mary-St. Charles in Cheboygan, St. Clement in Pellston and Sacred Heart in Riggsville. Fr. Haider had been serving as Parochial Vicar for the parishes of St. Ann in Cadillac, St. Edward in Harrietta, St. Stephen in Lake City and St. Theresa in Manton.
