Calling all Women: DCCW Annual Convention will be May 1

04/14/2013

All women are invited to participate in the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women’s Annual Spring Convention to be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at the Diocesan Pastoral Center in Gaylord.

In his Apostolic Letter Porta Fidei announcing the Year of Faith, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, wrote, “Faith grows when it is lived as an experience of love received and when it is communicated as an experience of grace and joy. It makes us fruitful, because it expands our hearts in hope and enables us to bear life-giving witness.”

As we continue to observe this special year, Catholics throughout the world are encouraged to renew our faith and rekindle the fire of love for God and His Church and to proclaim the Gospel. The Diocese of Gaylord DCCW hopes to support women throughout the diocese in responding to that call and have selected “Year of Faith – Growing in His Love” as the theme for this year’s convention. Fr. Anthony Wozniak will provide the keynote address.

Fr. “Tony,” as he is lovingly referred to in our area, was born and raised in Posen with his six brothers and sisters. He attended St. Casmir School in Posen and graduated from Posen High School in 1951. After high school, he Tony spent a year studying at Notre Dame and then attended St. Mary’s College in Orchard Lake, Michigan. After graduation, he enrolled at S.S. Cyril and Methodius Seminary also in Orchard Lake and was ordained to the priesthood on May 23, 1959, by Bishop Hugh Lamb at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.

Now retired, Fr. Tony returns to his hometown of Posen in the summer, celebrating Masses with local parishioners.

Angela Yarch, 2nd Vice President for the DCCW, noted “Fr. Tony is wonderful speaker with a jovial spirit. He is very interesting and we are really excited to have him at this year’s convention.”

The day will begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude at 2:00 p.m. Bishop Bernard Hebda will celebrate a Eucharistic Liturgy at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Cathedral.

Cost to attend is $20 which includes lunch and refreshments. To register, contact your local Parish President or send your registration with check payable to Gaylord DCCW to: Gloria White, DCCW Treasurer, 530 M55 West, Tawas City, MI 48763. If you have questions or need additional information, please contact Marcia Albosta at 989.786.2887.
