"Totally Yours" will be Theme of Mother Daughter Retreat

02/21/2013

The “Totus Tuus” Mother & Daughter Retreat for young women in grades 8-12 and their mothers is scheduled for March 23 & 24, 2013 at the Augustine Retreat Center in Conway. Hosted by

JP II Youth Ministry of St. Francis Xavier Parish, this enriching retreat experience is open to all young women and their mothers in the Diocese of Gaylord. The “Totus Tuus” retreat experience will highlight spiritual reflections on the Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary by Fr. Dennis Stilwell, Pastor of St. Francis Xavier in Petoskey and the Marian Entrustment of John Paul II, along with a reflection about women as seen in the light of Theology of the Body and an overview of John Paul II’s letter on the Rosary, “Rosarium Virginis Mariae.”

This unique retreat opportunity allows time for mother/daughter discussions, the opportunity to meet other young women and mothers from around the diocese, a Natural Beauty Session and evening social, prayer, spiritual reflection and the sacraments of Eucharist and Reconciliation. The weekend even includes a fun presentation entitled, “Decorating with Roses on a Tissue Paper Budget.”

One young woman who attended last year’s retreat wrote: “This retreat was so beautiful. My relationship with my heavenly Mother and my own mother has grown ten times bigger. Not only has my relationship with Mary grown, but my love for God has grown too. My knowledge of what love means is also bigger. I highly recommend any girl to go to this retreat with her mother when she gets the chance.”

Another young retreat participant had these thoughts: “I know after this retreat that I’ve gotten closer to our mother, Mary. I’m glad I had this experience because even after just two days, I feel I know my faith and understand true womanhood so much more.”

Liz Gengle, High School Youth Director for JP II Youth Ministry and organizer of the mother-daughter retreat, noted, “Opportunities for moms and their teenage daughters to come together for retreat, discussions, and faith-filled presentations are unique at any time. Particularly in the Year of Faith and in the spirit of Blessed John Paul II, the goal of offering the Father & Son and Mother & Daughter annual retreats is to give families an opportunity to step away from the busyness of everyday life in order to deepen their family bonds, strengthen faith, and journey together more closely to the hearts of Jesus and Mary, and find the peace that the world simply cannot give. This year’s Mother & Daughter retreat will highlight the peace and light that comes with a trustful surrender to God and His Eternal plan, through the assistance of our Heavenly Mother.”

To register for the Mother & Daughter Retreat, contact Liz Gengle at 231.347.4133 or at jp2youth@gmail.com. Cost for the overnight is $65 per individual and $15 for Saturday only registration.
