Chistmas Concerts to assist those attending World Youth Day
As we celebrate the Christmas season, everyone is invited to two special choral concerts featuring seminarian Nicholas Cooper. O Holy Night: A Christmas Concert will take place on Thursday, December 27, at 7 pm at Coopers home parish of Sacred Heart in Elk Rapids and again on Sunday, December 30, at 3 pm at St. Francis Xavier in Petoskey. He will be accompanied by Marti Krusell and Sharon Zimmerman.
Cooper, a tenor, is the former organist and Director of Sacred Music at Sacred Heart in Elk Rapids. He also directed the Schola and founded the Childrens Liturgical Choir. Now in his second year as a seminarian for the Diocese of Gaylord and studying at the Pontifical College Josephinum in Cincinnati, Cooper previously earned a Bachelor of Music from Aquinas College and a Masters of Sacred Music from Notre Dame, which he attended on a full scholarship. He frequently uses his musical gifts at diocesan events, including cantoring at the Ordination to the Priesthood of Father Peter Wigton, and directing the choir and orchestra at the Ordination to the Diaconate of seminarian Matthew Furgiuele.
Cooper will perform such classics as Ave Maria by Franz Schubert, O Holy Night by Adolphe Adam, and Panis Angelicus by Cesar Franck, in addition to traditional Christmas hymns.
There is no cost to attend but a free will offering will be accepted with all donations benefitting the seminarians and young adults of the diocese who will attend World Youth Day 2013 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The concert will be presented in both Elk Rapids and Petoskey to allow parishioners from all over our geographically-diverse diocese to attend the concert nearest them. For more information, contact Judy Abeel at 989.732.5147.
