Want to experience life in our sister Diocese of Matagalpa, Nicaragua?
The Diocese of Gaylord will be sending a delegation to our sister Diocese of Matagalpa, Nicaragua between February 05, 2013 and February 15, 2013. The primary purpose of this trip will be to build relationships and solidarity with the people and Catholic community in Matagalpa. We hope to strengthen our mutual ties of friendship, learn about their world and their needs, share our own world and our needs with them, worship together, and plan for the continuing development of our cross-cultural partnership.
We are looking for people representative of the diversity of northern Lower Michigan, who are generally in good health and are involved in their community. We need people who are willing to support the mission of this delegation (as described above), who are energetic and enjoy meeting new people in a challenging environment. Delegates need to be able to fund their own expenses for the trip (estimated to be approximately $1,600) or be able to raise it from family, friends or parish.
Delegates must also be committed to active participation in pre-trip orientation sessions and post trip participation in the work of the partnership in some leadership capacity. While the trip will involve a fascinating immersion into another culture, it is not intended for those who are primarily interested in being a tourist.
Interested persons should ask themselves the following questions:
- Am I the kind of person who is open to listening and leaning in a cross-cultural setting?
- Am I able to be gracious and flexible in new and different situations?
- Am I open to other peoples' political, economic and social ideas and situations?
- Do I have good physical and emotional health?
- Will I have the time and interest to get involved with the steering committee and to share my experiences with church and other groups after returning home?
- Will I commit myself to helping to build this partnership after my delegation experience?
