Let Your Voice Be Heard <br> Two Listening Sessions are left
Over the past several months, Bishop Bernard A. Hebda and the directors of the various diocesan offices have been participating in a strategic planning process with the ultimate goal being to discern and carry out a mutually shared vision for the Diocese of Gaylord. After interviewing several organizations, the Catholic Leadership Institute was selected to help facilitate the process. (The Catholic Leadership Institute is also facilitating the Good Leaders Good Shepherds program that many of the priests serving the diocese have just begun.) The first steps included completing leadership profiles, understanding leadership styles and creating an overriding vision and goals for the process itself. The next step is to receive input from a variety of sources, particularly parishioners across the diocese, as to what they believe should be key priorities for the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Gaylord. With this goal in mind, the Diocese has been hosting Listening Sessions throughout the months of May and June in a number of locations throughout our 21 counties. The purpose of these Listening Sessions is threefold: to rejoice in the blessings that God has given to this local Church; to envision the future of the diocese; and to surface key priorities that our diocese can pursue in service over the next 2 to 3 years. The sessions are very focused on three specific questions: What does the Diocese do well? What could we improve upon? What should be the top three priorities for the Diocese over next 18-24 months? Everyone is invited and encouraged to share their concerns, hopes and dreams for the Diocese of Gaylord. Participants may attend any session that is convenient for them. To dates, sessions have been held in Traverse City, Alpena, Indian River and Cadillac. Two sessions are left: Monday, June 18 St. Pius X Parish Hall in Hale 7:00-8:30 p.m. Saturday, June 23 Pastoral Center in Gaylord 10:30 a.m. noon An additional session focusing specifically on youth will take place with teens who are attending the annual Christian Leadership Institute (CLI) in June, but all youth are invited to attend any of the other Listening Sessions being held in the diocese as well. Its important that voices be heard from as wide an audience as possible in order to effectively prepare a strategic plan which truly reflects a mutually shared vision for the Diocese of Gaylord, said Candace Neff, diocesan Director of Communications. In addition to hearing from active parishioners, we also hope to hear from those who are not currently active or who may have left the Church. To help accomplish this, parishioners are being asked to try to bring someone they know who is no longer active in the Church with them to the Listening Session. The Diocese is also reaching out to other populations within the Church such as Native Americans, Spanish speakers, those with disabilities, etc. So that appropriate arrangements for space and refreshments may be made, those planning to attend are asked to contact Susan Roundy at the Diocese by phone at 989.732.5147 or by email to email@example.com with their name, number attending and session they will attend. Please also be sure to let us know if you require any special accommodations in order to participate.
