Two Special Events for Youth
For the past several years, the Vocations Advisory Committee has planned several events to bring together young men and young women for prayer, reflection and fun, to help them in their faith journey and to assist them in discerning how they will serve God as they grow into adulthood. This month both groups will gather for special events.
Discovering True Womanhood is title for the gathering being planned for young women and will take place on Saturday, December 10 at the Carmelite Monastery in Traverse City. Girls in the 7-12 grades from anywhere in the diocese are invited and encouraged to participate and parents are also welcome. The day will begin with Mass at 10:30 a.m. and will be followed by a visit with the Sisters and those who have recently entered the Carmelite Monastery. Lunch, cookie decorating and time to simply socialize are on the agenda. The girls in attendance will also help to make the final decision of the name and logo for this new Diocese of Gaylord group for girls. Cookies and decorations will be provided to decorate and to share - bring a tin to take some home.
There is no cost to attend this event. Pre-registration is required, however, so that the Carmelites might plan appropriately for lunch. Registration forms can be found in your parish offices or you can download information and registration by visiting the calendar section of the diocesan website (www.dioceseofgaylord.org). Registration deadline is Tuesday, December 6.
Young men in grades 9-12 are encouraged to attend the St. Andrew Task Force Retreat On a Mission from God which will be held at St. Mary Cathedral School in Gaylord December 16-18. A highlight of the retreat will be attending the Ordination to the Priesthood of Joseph Ortega which will take place on Saturday, December 17 at St. Mary Cathedral. Participants will spend time with our current seminarians, learning how they encounter Jesus in their daily lives and find support in their faith commitment. Presenters will include Bishop Bernard Hebda and Fr. Don Geyman. There will also be time for socializing and sports.
The retreat begins on Friday, December 16 at 7:00 p.m. and will end around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 18, after an 8:30 a.m. Mass which will be followed by a family breakfast. The cost for the retreat is $25 which includes all activities and meals. Because we do not want anyone to be excluded due to financial concerns, if you are in need of financial assistance in order to attend, please contact Fr. Don Geyman. Registration deadline is December 9. Registration forms for this SATF Retreat are also available in parish offices or can be downloaded from the diocesan website.
