Mass to Honor Religious will be held August 28
Every Catholic Christian is called to live his or her life as a witness to Christ who gave his life for us. While each of us has received a vocation to service and there are many ways in which we can realize that vocation, consecrated life is a particular vocation to conform one's life to Jesus Christ through living as he did in poverty, chastity and obedience, dedicating oneself to God for service to the Church and for the salvation of the world. Among the earliest ministers and educators in northern lower Michigan, religious priests, sisters and brothers were instrumental in helping to lay the strong foundation for the Catholic faith in our area that continues today. Their faith and example are shining lights of the love of Christ and beacons of hope in our world.
In appreciation for the ministry and dedication of all men and women religious who have accepted their call to consecrated life and are serving in the Diocese of Gaylord, Bishop Bernard Hebda will celebrate a special Eucharistic Liturgy on August 28. Five jubilarians will also be recognized, including: Sr. Augusta Stratz, RSM, (60 years); Sr. Chris Herald, OP; Rev. Harry Speckman, OFM; and Rev. Thomas Vos, OFM (50 years); and Rev. Michael Fowler, OFM (35 years).
Everyone is invited to this Mass for Consecrated Life which will be held at St. Mary Cathedral in Gaylord on Sunday, August 28 at 3:00 p.m. A reception will follow in the parish hall.
