Vocations Contest Winners Announced

In preparation for National Vocations Awareness Week 2011, young people from across the Diocese of Gaylord were invited to create artwork illustrating a Prayer for Vocations written by Bishop Bernard Hebda. In total, over 300 entries were received across the five age divisions which included K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12 and young adults 18-25.

Preliminary selections were made by members of the diocesan staff, with final judging completed by current seminarians of the Diocese of Gaylord.

“It was really fun to see all the entries and help with the contest,” said Tyler Bischoff. Sean Farkas, Chris Jarvis, Will MacMaster and Michael Wigton nodded in agreement. All five are seminarians studying at the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus and were joined by seminarian Chet Collins who is preparing at Sacred Heart School of Theology in Hales Corners, Wisconsin, for the judging process

“There were a lot of good ones and it was hard to pick,” they said.

Winners will receive a certificate signed by Bishop Hebda and a $100 savings bond. An honorable mention recipient was also chosen from each grade.

The winning entries will be created into prayer cards and distributed to parishes and schools throughout the diocese to encourage ongoing prayers for vocations by individuals, families, classrooms and other organizations and groups.
