Diocese and NAFC Offer Initiation Workshop


catechumenate_1.jpgIn partnership with The North American Forum on the Catechumenate and the Diocese of Gaylord, Focus on Initiation: Purification & Enlightenment will be presented August 19 and 20, 2010 (Thursday & Friday), at the Diocesan Pastoral Center in Gaylord.

Participants will be provided opportunities to learn skills and techniques that are critical to effective ministry during the Purification & Enlightenment period of the RCIA process, including:

  • The intent and focus of this period
  • ;What is meant by "intense spiritual preparation
  • How to prepare both the Elect and the community for the Scrutinies
  • How to prepare and celebrate the Presentations
  • A good way to reflect on these rights after their celebration The institute's team includes:

    Rita Ferrone, a liturgist who has worked with the catechumenate for more than 20 years. She is the author of On the Rite of Election and co-author of the Foundations in Faith series. Rita's latest book, Liturgy: Sacrosanctum Concilium, in the Paulist series, Rediscovering Vatican II, won a Catholic Press Association award in 2008. A frequent presenter at workshops throughout the U.S., she lives in Mount Vernon, New York.

    Andrew Varga, Pastor of Saint Luke Church in Westport, CT, and a principal author of the Diocesan pastoral guidelines for implementing the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.

    The registration fee of $270 per person includes $190 tuition and $80 facility & meals fee. There is a $10 discount per person when two or more participants are registered from the same parish at the same time. (Remember to complete one form for each participant.)
