DCCW Fall Workshop

The annual Fall Workshop was held at St. Mary's Cathedral on Wednesday, October 14th. Approximately 80 ladies from throughout the diocese attended the day-long event which is designed to provide an opportunity to gather for spiritual development and enrichment as well as a time of fellowship. The theme for this year’s workshop was “The Year for Our Shepherds” and featured presentations by Rev. Patrick Maher, Pastor of St. Joseph, West Branch; Holy Family, Klacking Creek; and St. Stephen of Hungary, Skidway and Dannie Brzezinski, Director of the diocesan Secretariat for Faith Development. Fr. Patrick spoke about the call to the priesthood as well as his own personal journey leading to his ordination and service as an ordained priest for the Diocese of Gaylord. Brzezinski explained that each of us is called through out Baptism as priest, prophet and king. She encouraged the ladies to think about what it means to be a prophet as part of the “ordinary priesthood” versus the “ordained priesthood.” Bishop Patrick R. Cooney joined the ladies for lunch and then presided at a Eucharistic Liturgy to conclude the event. Rev. Francis Murphy, Spiritual Moderator for the DCCW, and Rev. Duane Wachowiak, Pastor of the parishes of the Boyne Valley Catholic Community and Director of the Secretariat for Worship, concelebrated the Mass while Deacon Sylvestre Obwaka assisted at the altar. The Gaylord DCCW sponsors two activities each year for all Catholic ladies of northern Michigan; the Fall Workshop in October and the May Convention. The 2010 Convention is scheduled for May 19 at St. Mary Cathedral Parish Hall in Gaylord. The Diocesan Council of Catholic Women consists of all women who are members of the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Gaylord and everyone is invited to participate in activities of the DCCW. In addition to the officers, there are are six commissions represented at the Diocesan level-Church, International, Legislative, Family, Organization and Community.
