Catholic Home Missions Acknowledges CSA GIft
In a recent letter received by Bishop Patrick Cooney, Most Rev. Michael W. Warfel, Bishop of Great Falls-Billings and Chairman of the USCCB Subcommittee on Catholic Home Missions wrote to express his thanks for the contribution of $11,123.00. The contribution is a testament to the strength of the Universal Church at work in the Diocese of Gaylord. The combined contributions made by the faithful in northern lower Michigan to the Catholic Services Appeal (CSA) help fund these wonderfully charitable works, facilitated through the USCCB. In all, there are 12 National Collections, and all but 2 are funded through the Diocese of Gaylords finance office based on a percentage share of the funds collected through CSA. By doing this, it alleviates the need for a second collection during Masses across the diocese, as well as the expense and manpower needed for extra envelopes and counting the additional funds. Bishop Warfel noted, In these difficult days, small dioceses without significant reserves are in increasing danger and need a helping hand to evangelize, to catechize, and especially to train future priests who will proved Mass, sacraments, and religious education for their people. Currently, the Subcommittee on the Home Missions is assisting 90 mission bishops.
