Office Ministry Day a Gift for Attendees
On Thursday, April 16, about 50 women who serve in parish and diocesan offices across the Diocese of Gaylord, gathered at the Augustine Center for what has become an annual event Celebration of Office Ministry. This was the 23rd year for the event and has been declared once again a wonderful event by those in attendance. The morning dawned a beautiful spring day and the Augustine Center provided a lovely continental breakfast. Participants had an opportunity to socialize and enjoy a chair massage from one of three masseuses before the presentations began. Sr. Barbara Hubeny, OP, Executive Director of the Augustine Center, welcomed the group and introduced Karen Derris. New to the Augustine Center, Karen was the meeting organizer. The Guest Presenter for the day was Sr. Sue Tracy, OP, from the Dominican House, Grand Rapids, MI. Sr. Sue is a cancer survivor and has been in public speaking for some time. She presented an abbreviated version of one of her talks focusing on Celebrate the Gift You Are. Sr. Sue used humor and stories from her past as she encouraged the women to recognize and appreciate their own uniqueness and special gifts. She also provided hand-outs and asked the women to complete a variety of assignments throughout the morning. The Augustine Center staff then provided a special luncheon in honor of the office ministers. Bishop Patrick Cooney joined the ladies and presided at a Eucharistic Liturgy to conclude the day. Fr. Frank Partridge concelebrated. At the end of the service, each office minister approached the Bishop for a special blessing and commissioning. The beautifully sunny day that greeted the attendees at the end of the service served as the final piece of good fortune this day making all who attended look forward to the 24th Annual Celebration!
