Faith Development Resource Day

02/20/2009

Register now to participate in the Faith Development Resource Day on March 21 at the Diocesan Pastoral Center in Gaylord. Sponsored by the Secretariat for Faith Development, the event will feature a keynote address by Patrick M. O’Brien, President and Chief Executive Officer of FAITH Publishing Service. O’Brien will speak on “Marketing as a form of Evangelization.” O’Brien is part of the team that created FAITH Magazine for the Diocese of Lansing in 2000. Quite quickly the demand for the publication grew and a company was formed to serve the Catholic Church in the United States. In 2005, O’Brien was named FAITH Publishing Service’s first president and CEO. In just a few short years, the company has become one of the most award-winning and fastest-growing Catholic publishing companies in the country. In 2003, FAITH was one magazine reaching 80,000 households, today FAITH’s 17 regional magazines reach nearly a million Catholic homes. Dannie Brzezinski, Director of the Secretariat for Faith Development for the Diocese of Gaylord is extremely pleased to have O’Brien speak and also lead a breakout session. “Many parishes are frustrated with the lack of participation in programs that they develop and present in their areas. In today’s world -- the Information Age -- parish ministry must be able to compete for people’s attention,” Brzezinski said. “Learning how to use modern media and modern marketing techniques just may be the answer to getting parishioners more involved and to reach our ultimate goal to catechize and evangelize in our communities and beyond.” The keynote presentation and follow-up breakout session will explain basic marketing principles, teaching the participants how to create a communication plan for their programs and giving step-by-step instructions to improve their communication pieces. A variety of publishers, including Harcourt, RCL Benziger and Sadlier, will also be on hand to exhibit their most popular resource materials as well as new products.
