Chrism Mass
Bishop Bernard A. Hebda invites all the faithful of the diocese to come to the Cathedral of St. Mary, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, for the celebraton of the Chrism Mass.
During the Chrism Mass the oils will be brought forth with the other usual “gifts of the earth” -- bread, wine and water. The oils come from olives that have been planted, nurtured, harvested and crushed by human hands for use in glorifying God. Just as the bread becomes for us the “bread of life” and the wine becomes “our spiritual drink,” the oils become instruments to show us God’s loving embrace in the Sacrament of the Sick, in preparation for Baptism in the Oil of Catechumens and, through the use of Sacred Chrism, in the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation when we are sealed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
