Safe Environment Programs
As part of the Diocese of Gaylord's commitment to protecting children, we offer sessions to promote an understanding of child abuse and neglect issues in our society. These sessions include discussion of diocesan policies, Michigan Child Protection Law, identfying signs and symptoms of abuse and what to do if one suspects child abuse or neglect is occurring.
The diocese continues to be blessed with local agencies and law enforcement who partner with us to develop and provide this training.
Sessions are open to ANY adult (regardless of religious affiliation or involvements with a parish or school) interested in learning about child abuse and neglect as well as the efforts of the Catholic Church in northern lower Michigan in regard to these issues. In addition, all individuals regularly working with minors are to attend one of these sessions. Participation is required for certification in most study tracts of the Center for Catholic Studies.
If you would like to have a session offered in your area, please contact Tom Tenerovicz at the Diocese.
Further, to make training more accessible to all adults, the Diocese of Gaylord has partnered with Shield the Vulnerable to provide an online safe environment program which is available via the Internet at all times. To take the course simply go to Shield the Vulnerable and sign in. Be sure to select the course specifically for the Diocese of Gaylord.
