Preparations in Process for Assembly
July 06, 2000
Preparations are presently in process for the Diocesan Pastoral Assembly, which will take place on Friday, April 27, 2001. The one-day assembly of delegates is simply a part of a much larger consultation process which will begin this fall at the parish level. Members of the parish will be invited to dialogue on the assembly focus: the Social Mission of the Church. As we continue to live out the threefold focus of the 1996 assembly: Worship the Almighty, Cherish and Share His Word and Co-build the Kingdom, we will focus this assembly on co-building the kingdom. The goals of Assembly 2001 are as follows: a) to invite dialogue and sharing at parish and diocesan levels, reflecting on the Jubilee pledge for Charity, Justice and Peace; b) to assess our understanding, commitment and response to the social mission of the Church; c) to produce outcomes that will result in new or renewed directions for living our lives focused on the vision of Jesus: "This is how they will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another." An assembly is a time for us to take stock of who we are and where we are going. It is a time to give everyone in the pews an opportunity to give input and to reflect on who we are as Catholics. It is a time to look at where we are headed -- to make adjustments in the course -- to get on track. We invite you to participate fully in your parish process this fall. It is long overdue that we seriously address the issues of social justice!
