DCCW Annual Convention is May 14
April 09, 2008
“Women are Treasures” is the theme for the 2008 DCCW Annual Convention to be held on Wednesday, May 14, at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Gaylord, Michigan. The convention is for all women of the diocese and is an opportunity to reconnect, to hear inspiring speakers and to learn what new things are happening in the diocese. Typically more than 250 women attend the event.
This year’s keynote speaker will be Marlene Elwell, founder of “Catholics in the Public Square” (CPS). The organization’s stated objective is to organize, to train and to equip Catholics in responding to the issues of the day as well as to engage in education and promote political and for social participation as a response to the baptismal call as Catholics to be faithful citizens.
The day’s program will also feature shorter presentations by Rev. Donald Geyman, Diocesan Delegate for Vocations; Joe Garant from Catholic Human Services; and Julie Racine, DCCW Province Director. It is hoped that Bishop Patrick Cooney and Fr. Francis Murphy might be well enough to join the women for part of the convention, but that remains to be determined due to their recent health issues.
Installation of new officers and the business meeting will be held in the afternoon session before adjourning from the Knights of Columbus Hall to celebrate the Eucharistic Liturgy at St. Mary Cathedral.
The day begins with registration at 9:00 at the K of C Hall in Gaylord and will conclude around 4:15 p.m. following the Mass at St. Mary Cathedral. Cost is $15 per person, which includes lunch. The deadline for reservations is May 5.
