Alpena Observes 30 Days of Peace
September 06, 2007
|
This first annual 30 Days of Peace will begin on the anniversary of 9/11, and conclude on 10/10, the birthday of international journalist and musician Daniel Pearl. The central focus of 30 Days of Peace is the annual International Day of Peace (Peace Day) September 21st.
The Alpena Peace Coalition has prepared a calendar of ecumenical peace activities and prayer vigils inviting people of Alpena and the surrounding area to participate. Among the events are study-discussion groups: “The Children of Abraham” understanding the cultures of Muslims, Jews and Christians; “A Cry For Creation” on climate change; as well as a contest for Alpena area schools; and a peace walk and vigil on September 21.
30 Days of Peace is a global campaign like no other, emerging at a critical time in human history. For the first time, the world’s leading peace organizations will unite in an effort to motivate people everywhere, particularly youth, to take positive action for Peace in our personal lives, communities and nations. It is the hope that by focusing on ways of creating peace for 30 days, and with many faith traditions joining in prayer, we might create peace building relationships and establish personal patterns of peace making.
The Alpena Peace Coaltion is comprised of the local Pax Christi Chapter, We Want World Peace Organization, The Dominican House of Blessing and Friends.
