Conference Celebrates Catechetical Ministry

The Secretariat for Faith Development has set August 18 for the 2007 Catechetical Conference. The conference welcomes anyone in catechetical ministry -- catechists, catechetical aides, RCIA catechists, youth ministers and DRE's. The event will be held at the Diocesan Pastoral Center in Gaylord and will begin with check-in at 8:30 AM.

Timothy R. Smith will be the guest presenter. Tim is known for his creative and versatile musical styles as both a sacred music composer and performer. He was one of the main speakers at last year’s youth rally where his music and storytelling inspired students and chaperones alike. In fact, during the rally a number of adults present asked that a day be planned to invigorate and energize them in their own faith and ministry. In response, the Diocesan Faith Development Staff designed this catechetical conference to uplift the spirit of catechetical leaders while also providing tools to enhance their ministry. In addition to his keynote, Smith will also offer a breakout session on using music in ministry. Breakout sessions for RCIA catechists and a special session on adult faith development will also be offered.

Additionally six major publishers will be on hand to demonstrate effective use of their catechetical materials with materials also available for purchase. Publishers include Benzinger & Creative Teaching; Harcourt Religion; Pflaum; RCL; Sadlier; and Silver Burdett.

A “Lunch Extraordinaire” will be served and awards presented to catechetical leaders for their years of service in ministry. Bishop Cooney will also speak to the gathering and send them forth will a special blessing.

Cost for the event is $25.00 per person with registrations due by Thursday, August 9.
