Matagalpa Delegation to Visit in May

The Global Solidarity Partnership between the Dioceses of Gaylord and Matagalpa will take another step forward next month when a delegation from Nicaragua is expected to visit northern Michigan.

Headed by Bishop Jorge Solorzano, the delegation will include Msgr. Franciso Reyes, Chancellor for the Diocese of Matagalpa; Fr. Ramiro Tijerino, Director of Caritas Matagalpa; Fr. Edgar Sacaza, Director of Pastoral Education of Catholic Schools of Matagalpa; Mrs. Eugenia Estrada, Coordinator of CODIAL, who will be in charge of coordinating future projects between the dioceses; Fr. Mangel Hernandez, Pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Matiguas; Ms. Lesbia Gutierrez, Coordinator of the Credit Program of Caritas Matagalpa and Mrs. Taniuska Hasslam, translator and committee member.

The group is scheduled to arrive in Traverse City on Friday, May 19, where they will be welcomed and greeted by members of the Gaylord delegation. In addition to planned meetings to review progress and continue the vision of collaboration between the two dioceses, the Gaylord committee is making arrangements for the Matagalpa representatives to make presentations at many parishes and tour several points of interest in the area.

A complete itinerary will be published when the visitation schedule has been confirmed. The delegation travels back to Nicaragua on Thursday, May 25.
