Chrism Mass
Bishop Bernard A. Hebda invites all the faithful of the diocese to attend the Chrism Mass on Tuesday, March 30 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Cathedral in Gaylord. In this Liturgy, the faithful of the Church of Gaylord are called to pray together and to be a part of the blessing of the Oil of Catechumen, the Oil for the Anointing of the Sick and for the Consecration of the Sacred Chrism.
Since the bishop is the only minister in the diocese who may consecrate chrism, this Mass highlights his ministry and our union with him. Throughout the rest of the year, though he will not baptize and confirm everyone in the parishes of the diocese, he will be symbolically present in the Chrism which the priests will use.
This Mass also acknowledges the ministry of priests. It invites them to renew their commitment of service and to receive the prayers and support of the people. The Mass of Chrism gathers the faithful of the diocese at their mother church with their shepherd to prepare for celebrations of Christ in all our churches throughout the year.
There will be a buffet lunch following the Mass, the cost to attend the luncheon is $10 per person. Reservations are required and now being taken, so if you are interested in attending the luncheon, please contact your parish office. There is no cost to attend the Mass, and reservations are not needed if you plan to attend the Chrism Mass only.
