Diocese of Gaylord 1st Annual Catechism Bee
Last year during the 2011 Catholic Schools Week the women of St. Angela's Circle at St. Ann Church and School in Cadillac organized and hosted a school wide Catechism Bee at the school. The Bee was moderated by Bishop Hebda with the Superintendent of Catholic Schools in attendance. The event was extremely successful and before the end of the year plans were made to bring the competition to other diocesan schools.
This school year we invite each individual school to host a Catechism Bee (preferably during Catholic Schools Week although not necessary). Questions and student study guides (links available below) have been organized into three divisions; Primary (2nd & 3rd grade), Intermediate (4th & 5th grade) and Advanced (6th & 7th grade). Schools are not required to organize competition at all three levels, but are free to host one, two or (should they choose), all three divisions.
The Diocese will be hosting a Diocesan wide Advanced Division Catechism Bee for 6th grade representatives from each individual school. All schools are expected to facilitate at least one classroom Bee at the 6th grade (Advanced Level). 6th grade winners at the individual school level will advance to the Diocesan Wide Bee that will be hosted at the Cathedral (with Bishop Hebda as moderator) on Thursday, April 26, 2012. Individual Schools may advance one sixth grader per classroom to the Diocesan Bee.
