The Diocese of Gaylord is seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to serve as its first Chief of Staff.  The Diocese of Gaylord, under the leadership of Bishop Steven J. Raica, covers the 21 counties of Northern Michigan in the Lower Peninsula.  It includes seventy-five (75) parishes, eighteen (18) schools, one (1) Catholic hospital, with a total Catholic population of over 47,870.

The Chief of Staff is appointed by the Bishop to coordinate, lead and supervise the exercise of internal operations and administrative responsibilities for the Diocese.  The Chief of Staff nurtures positive relationships with all staff to help ensure that the diocese’s goals are met with respect to effective and efficient operations.  The Chief of Staff also works closely with the Bishop and other curia staff members to appropriately support the Bishop in his chief roles of teaching, sanctifying and governing the faithful and to foster mutually responsible relationships with diocesan institutions.  The Chief of Staff serves on various Boards and Committees of the Diocese of Gaylord.



•    The selected candidate will be a practicing Catholic, able to partake in the full sacramental life of the Church, with a familiarity with the Church’s structures, functions, institutions and knowledge of current church issues.

•    Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) with experience in administration, planning, communication, public relations, theology, canon law and/or ministry is desirable.

•    Proven ability to supervise, facilitate and work collaboratively with others is required.

•    Proven experience in written and oral communications is required.
