In 2000, the diocese began to develop curricula for all of the major subject areas. By the fall of 2003, all of these curricula have been implemented. Further work is planned to integrate them with methods of instruction and assessment.
In 1995, the School of Theology was established. It is an adult formation series of four sessions offered to Catholic school teachers/principals. The series is based on the four pillars of the Catechism of the Catholic Church: prayer, sacraments, faith and morality. Application forms can be obtained through the school principals or by contacting the Diocesan office. The following schools have been closed since the formation of the diocese in 1971:
For information regarding school records, contact the Secretariat for Faith Formation of Children and Youth. SCHOOL POLICY BOOK: The Diocese has prepared a School Policy Book. Please reference this book for procedural questions. If the answers are not found, feel free to call the Diocesan office. Available to all parishes with schools is the Education Commission Guidelines. Included in this handbook are sections on Adult Education Advisory Committees, Catholic School Advisory Committees, Religious Education Advisory Committees and Youth Ministry Advisory Committees. These are consultative committees that will be concerned with planning and policy recommendations which affect each program. The chair of each of these committees would act as liaison to the parish Education Commission. During the school year 1993-94, the Diocese established the Bishop's Christian Service Award, given to two graduating students from each of the four Catholic high schools. The selection is made on the basis of the student living their Catholic faith. Beginning in the 1998/99 school year, three awards are also now presented to graduating seniors, who due to geographical location, do not have the opportunity to attend one of our four Catholic High Schools. An independent Diocesan panel of judges selects the recipients of this award. For more information, check with the school principal, pastor, Director of Religious Education, Youth Minister, or call the Diocesan office. |
